Making a meaningful impact

Updated: Feb 24, 2021

Thanks to YOUR generous contributions, the Cape and Islands United Way is releasing its latest round of Community Response Funding to address food security issues that have been exacerbated by the pandemic.

In this round of funding, we are providing thousands of dollars to meet the food security needs of our community on many different fronts. Funding is being earmarked to smaller organizations making a big impact right now, including the Friends of Bourne Food Pantry, the Cape & Islands Veterans Outreach Center Mobile Pantry, the Nantucket Interfaith Council and the Family Table Collaborative.

The Community Response Fund was established in 2019 to address emergency needs in the community. When the pandemic hit, the Cape and Islands United Way was able to raise more than $125,000 in a few short weeks – and since then the donations have continued to come in. Since April, the fund has provided more than $130,000 in emergency aid to address food security, housing, child care and other critical issues.

Food security is a critical issue as we continue to see the impacts of the pandemic on our community, said Mark Skala, President & CEO of Cape and Islands United Way, Through our Community Response Fund, we have been able to meet immediate needs, respond in the moment and work even more closely with our collaborators.

It has been an eye-opening year, to say the least. I just wish we could meet every need out there. – Mark Skala

We continue welcome donations of any size to the Community Response Fund. United, we will be able to weather this pandemic and beyond.
