The Cape and Islands United Way (CIUW), a nonprofit organization on a mission to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of our communities to advance the common good on Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard, and Nantucket, has welcomed two new board members, Valerie Silva of Silva Accounting Professionals and John McCarthy of Pelham House Resorts, to its board of directors.
Valerie Silva is the President of Silva Accounting Professionals, an accounting firm in South Yarmouth. Previously Silva was the Chief Operating Officer of Glivinski and Associates before purchasing the company in 2023. Silva currently serves on the board of directors of Cape Cod Young Professionals and has worked with the Family Table Collaborative as board treasurer. She holds a bachelor's degree from Johnson and Wales University and a master’s degree in accounting. Silva and her husband Seth live in Yarmouth with their twin daughters.
“Cape and Islands United Way impacts so many local organizations – reaching so much of our local community,” said Silva. “To be a part of that is truly an honor; I am very grateful to be a new board member of CIUW.”
John McCarthy is the managing partner of Pelham House Resorts in Dennis. McCarthy’s family-owned Pelham House for many years and recently brought in strategic partners and investors, growing the resort into what it is today. McCarthy is also the basketball coach at Monomoy Regional High School and previously worked as the hoops coach at Nauset Regional High School. He received a bachelor’s degree from Rivier University with a focus on business administration. John is the proud father of two sons and two stepsons and is married to Heather McCarthy.
