CAPE AND ISLANDS, MA – The Cape and Islands United Way is happy to announce that in their most recent round of micro grant funding, $20,000 has been awarded for the following initiatives:

  • Read Happy (Hyannis) – promotes literacy by giving book and blanket packages to young parents and their children.

  • Neighborhood Falmouth (Falmouth) – helps seniors to age in place by providing social connection and transportation to medical appointments, the grocery store and errands.

  • Cape Cod Toy Library (West Barnstable) – Curated lending library with collection of toys and books that promote learning through play experiences.

  • The Warming Place (Nantucket) -- 7-day a week shelter that provides dinner, breakfast, laundry services and other resources for guests.

  • Cape Abilities (Hyannis and Falmouth) – funded program focuses on healthy changes in diet, improved cardiovascular functions and improved overall sense of wellbeing for individuals with disabilities.

  • Tommy’s Place (Centerville and Falmouth) – magical vacation homes for kids who are fighting cancer and their loved ones.

A typical micro grant is about $2,500 and is available on a rolling schedule. The goals of the program are to engage residents of all ages in projects that address local concerns to improve the community landscape, and to bring attention to the value and reward of volunteerism. Volunteerism can be in the form of training or education, or as a specific volunteer project.

The Cape and Islands United Way improves lives by mobilizing the caring power of our communities to advance the common good. We wish to extend a huge thank you to the Bilezikian Family Foundation, Eversource Charitable Foundation and Granite City Electric who have provided generous funding for our micro grant program!
